Welcome to Albany Bird Control: Prevention and Removal of Unwanted Birds

Our company specializes in resolving problems caused by birds in Albany, New York, both residential and commerical. We handle bird species such as pigeons, starlings, grackles, sparros, and even Canada Geese and woodpeckers. We generally don't kill birds - we prevent them from causing problems. Most commonly, this means that we install barriers that prevent them access to your building or property, or anti-roosting devices that prevent them from landing, nesting, or roosting on your home, store, building, or anywhere. We use netting, needle strips, shock track, and more. We do offer trapping in some cases, and removal of birds from warehouses, grocery stores, or other commerical or industrial buildings by netting or sometimes pellet shooting. We have a wide variety of tools and methods for solving every manner of bird problem. Call us at 518-749-2890 to discuss your bird problem today.

What Works to Keep Pigeons Away

You actually do have a number of options open to you when you have a pigeon problem that you want to get rid of, although it is always a very good idea to come up with a plan of action first.

The plan for pigeon removal will consist of a number of steps. Firstly, you'll need to actually figure out what your problem is. Do you have a few pigeons that land on your roof every day? Or do you think you might have a small flock of them living up in your attic. The two scenarios will need to be dealt with in very different ways. The roof can be easily put right by installing bird spike strips to the areas on which they are landing, and you can even use this approach to secure your chimney, your TV aerial, and other straight-edged spots around the building. The space in your attic will require a different approach. You will need to first ensure that you have safely removed all pigeons from the space in the attic, alongside their nests, eggs, or squabs — baby pigeons. Then you must work out how they managed to get in the space in the first place, before sealing it up and repairing the damage the birds have caused. This will also include droppings, which require a rather specific cleanup approach to prevent the spread of disease.

Bird netting can be used to cover larger areas than what the bird spike strips can cover, and also works for those awkward spots, such as those without straight edges on which the strips can easily be attached.

As with all forms of wild animal control and removal, you will need to tailor the materials you use for the specific bird or animal you're trying to target, as well as for the space that you need to protect. Large-spaced netting is great for keeping out larger birds, such as pigeons, but can still allow for smaller birds to pass right through the gaps. At the same time, small-spaced netting might not be smart for the larger birds because they might not see them and/or can get tangled up in them by accident.

If you have a problem with pigeons in your back garden but they don't appear to be making much of a nuisance of themselves actually around your building, we still recommend that you do some investigating. We have actually visited properties where the homeowner was adamant the pigeons weren't roosting in the attic, and guess what ... Yep, they were roosting in the attic. Just because you can't see them flying in and out all the time doesn't mean they aren't really there.

There are also things that you can do in and for your back garden to make the space less attractive to pigeons and other pests. These involve removing all food sources, making the landing spots unavailable or unattractive, or by using deterrents. We don't always recommend the latter as they rarely work, but there are still a few bird deterrents that can work effectively, when used in the correct manner.

There are lots of things that you can try to try and remove pigeons that are making a nuisance of themselves in your back garden or on your property, but you should be aware that not doing a proper and full job here will result in more damage, more mess, and a hell of a lot more cost down the line.
